Knoxville Front Porch Family Photos

Photography in the time of COVID-19

What an interesting time to be in the photography business… at the beginning of 2020 I had absolutely NO idea that this year would involve so much change in the way I do business and take pictures! The Minton family had their in-home photography session scheduled for early March, right as word of COVID-19 was starting to rise and restaurants and stores were beginning to close their doors. Because my clients’ health and safety is of upmost importance, we decided to move their session to the front porch and socially distanced from each other as I took a few photos of them in their living room through the front door! These family photos turned out to be so fun and sweet as we turned lemons into lemonade! With everything going on, it can feel sad, frustrating, and overwhelming as we wish life was “normal,” but I know that every time the Minton family looks at these photos, they can take a breath and remember that in spite of it all, there was still joy, family, sunshine, laughter, and a whole lot of love to be had on a Tuesday in March. If you’re interested in booking your own socially distanced porch portrait session, I’d love to work with you! Who knows what the rest of 2020 will look like, but whether or not we’re at home for the rest of the year, I want to make sure you can capture the moments that matter most to your family while staying safe and healthy. I hope you enjoy these photos my friends!

Outside Looking In

Doing a socially distanced family photoshoot meant I really had the chance to get creative with how to best capture this sweet family! Shooting through the windows from the porch and a ladder in the yard (yes, y’all, I’m not joking!) gave a unique perspective of what life might really look like on the inside of their walls right now. Legos & puzzles, just soaking in the family time. I LOVE how these photos below turned out. It’s always fun to be able to capture my clients in their natural element, and I love that the Mintons decided to pull out a puzzle to work on while I snapped these photos!

Home Sweet Home

For the living room portraits, I was able to stand at the front door and capture the shot. Having a strong stance and making sure my camera was in focus was absolutely necessary here since I wasn’t able to get close. So often we focus on making sure our camera is set correctly, but how you position your body as the photographer matters just as much!! Want to know more details on how to set yourself and your camera up for success to take better and more beautiful everyday photos? You need to sign up for my Digital Photography 101 course!
