While I love working with brands to highlight the faces and story of their business, I know many business owners have a product they need captured as well! EVERY BRAND SHOULD TELL A STORY
And does Rainy Day Boxes sure have a story that will move you. When Kate’s husband died tragically, she was 36, raising two young kids, and not sure how to pick up the pieces of her life. As Kate’s family was heading home from the memorial service, her sister Jess hugged her and told her she’d left a gift for her in her closet. Jess’s instructions were to open the box of a particularly “rainy” day, a day where all the grief was weighing down and Kate wasn’t sure how to make it through. Jess told her sister that what was in the box would help and that she’d mail her another box every time Kate opened her current one (she still continues to do this today!). Each note has a special gift and a handwritten, encouraging note inside. Kate could open these gifts on her own timing, and gift by gift, her sister’s thoughtfulness began to help alleviate a bit of the sorrow she felt after her loss.
Seeing how much these rainy day boxes helped Kate, both sisters decided to start making boxes for friends going through a hard time, and from this place launched Rainy Day Boxes so others could do the same.
THE RAINY DAY BOX CONCEPT
The concept is simple, yet incredibly thoughtful.
Here’s how the box works: Your friend is going through a hard time and you want to do something to help. Whether it’s a death, divorce, illness, pregnancy loss, caregiving for a family member, or any other long hard season, you can purchase a box filled with meaningful gifts (i.e., candles, shower steamers, jewelry) that ships directly to their house. The beautiful thing about this box is that each gift included is individually wrapped, meaning that your friend or family member can open a box of their choosing in their own time frame. Each box contains a note that pairs with the gift, providing a lift of encouragement, love, and support on those especially hard days. Grief is anything but linear, and this gift allows you to support those you love over and over again, right when they need it most, and long after the flowers, meals, and immediate gifts stop coming.
I absolutely loved working with these women to capture their story and their product, through photos that represent their brand. I hope you are as moved by their story as I am.
